Ok, I'm beginning to see the problem here. You seem to have quite a few
misconceptions about the items in question. Let me see if I can clear them
up for you.

Ok, I think this is where the confusion starts. The "Droids" title refers
to several series featuring Artoo and Threepio. First of all is the Droid
cartoon show, which ran in 1985. Second is the Marvel Star Droids comic
books, a tie-in to the television show, which ran from 85-86. Third is the
Dark Horse droids series of comic books, which ran from about 94-97. These
last are *not* the same as the Marvel Star comics, nor are they reprints.
Now, you seem to have confused the two. The Dark Horse Droids comics
feature entirely new and different stories from the Star. So Dark Horse
*did* run a series of Droids stories that was entirely it's own, and the
comics published by Dark Horse *were* orginally published by Dark Horse.
(They *never* reprinted the Star comics, but I wish they would.)
Your other misconception seems to be that these stories are set in the same
time period as the prequels. This is not true. Both the cartoon show and
the Dark Horse line of comics take place after the prequels, in the Imperial
era, beginning at five years before ANH and ending at three years before
ANH. The Star comics, written in the early eighties, were intended to take
place almost a century before the cartoon show, that is, well before the
prequel era. Obviously that is now impossible, and the stories since have
been moved by the Essential Chronology to about ten years before ANH. So,
to sum it all up:
32 Years Before ANH
The Phantom Menace
22 BANH
Attack of the Clones
10 BANH
Droids Marvel Star comics
5-3 BANH
Droids television show/Droids Dark Horse comics
0 BANH
A New Hope
So, as this timeline shows, there is more than a decade seperating the
Droids stories from the prequel films.

Yes we are talking about the same book, and no, they do not take place at
the same time There is a period of three years between ANH and TESB (this
is stated in the beginning of the TESB novel and is reflected in the
Essential Chronology.) Splinter occurs in the second year after ANH, not at
the same time as TESB, which takes place in the third year after ANH.
Here's another helpful timeline to illustrate this:
0 BANH
A New Hope
2 BANH
Splinter of the Mind's Eye
3 BANH
The Empire Strikes Back
So as you can see, SOTME does not take place at the exact same time as TESB.
They don't even occur in the same year. The Essential Guide and New Jedi
Order timelines show this as well.

Where is this? I'd be interested in seeing this, as I did not run across it
a year ago. In any case, I have already stated the current LFL policey,
which does include Droids and SOTME.
