Got no time, but I'll make it to the point.

Black Knight's Castle
Piece count: 569
Released: 1992

The pieces are pretty good to excellent. Gotta love the 4 inverse-slope
corners in grey and the one in black; dragon plumes galore, including a
white ring; yellow tudor wall pieces; a lot of grey (especially relative to
more recent castle sets), and although it could be better, the model
integrates wall pieces and bricks, grey and black, and still looks very decent.

The figs are beyond words wonderful - excellent - the best. Smileys on some
and scruffy (yet still "grunt"ish) faces on the others. Two euro armor
pices, two different horse bardings! The amount of scale mail torsos is
incredible. And a Wolfpack. Love it.

The final model looks pretty decent, the colors mesh a lot better than
expected. The castle even looks half-defensible, which is more than I can
say about a lot of TLC's castles. Portcullis *and* drawbridge make for
double the fun. And nice little room and secret back door. (I'd push for
more interior though). The well is cool (or is it something else? That hole
in the floor makes me wonder...). The door hiding the ghost *rocks*. Great
design on that.

Big qualm (no pun intended (1)) - the model is very shaky and the way the
pieces are placed, the entire model could fall apart if the baby/dog/elbow
knocked it over, y'know? Definitely not very sturdy. Gosh, I think King
Leo's castle was sturdier <gasp>. For cryin out loud. Playability could be
much diminished.

All in all (on a 1-10 scale):

Pieces: 8.5
Minifigs: 9.5
Model: 7

Would I buy it again? Yes, because I'm crazy about the figs and I can use
the grey. Plus it's one of my childhood "I want that" sets. And because of
the yellow tudor walls. ;-)

(1) Seriously, it wasn't intended, I didn't even catch it at first.

(...) Funny, the other night I was looking at those isntructions and let's see, a little round seat-like thing on a plate covering a pit. It looks strangely like a medieval toilet. The funny thing is it looks like prisoners are supposed to be jailed (...) (23 years ago, 3-Aug-01, to lugnet.reviews)
