Just a reminder that the next SMART meeting is coming up in a couple of
weeks. If you haven't started building a robot for the mini challenge, now
is the time to at least start thinking about it.
The meeting is Saturday March 31st, at 2pm, in the Bellevue Public Library,
room 1.
The mini challenge is to design a robot that drives around a rectangular
table without falling off. When it comes into contact with a heavy object,
stop.
The heavy object brought to the meeting will be a black 'cube' 6 Lego-units
square, and five bricks high made out of weight elements and plates. It
weighs about 12 ounces, or 1/3 of a kilogram. But the specifics shouldn't
be too important. Any fairly small, heavy object should do.
Think about different ways of tackling this problem. What strikes you as
more difficult - detecting the edge of the table, or finding the cube? Do
you want to actively search for the cube? Or do you just want to wander
around randomly until you bump into it? Perhaps you can come up with a
search pattern to look for it - one way to think about this challenge might
be as a search and rescue mission. Use whatever ideas work for you.
Also, start thinking about other mini challenge ideas. Write down any ideas
that you have and bring them to the meeting. From now on we'll be making a
list and voting on them at the meetings.
See you in two weeks!
