LEGO programming will be returning to the 2005 Philcon
SF convention! This will be the second year with an official exhibit and
events. (And the third year as part of the Childrens Program, but dont let
that scare you, AFOLs.) Plans include a MOC exhibit, open build and Micro
Moonbase, squad and fleet gaming, digital slideshows/building demos for
starships and mecha, stop-motion film screenings, and the return of Eric
Sophies Giant Robo Sculptures Of Gah, is that really LEGO?.
I thought Id invite SciBrick, Space and Mecha builders, and other interested
parties to participate. (Castle would also fit Philcons mission, but theres
only so much room at the hotel. Id be happy to be persuaded otherwise.)
Exact placement of events has not yet been determined, because we all know how
much room MOCs occupy (hence Micro Moonbase, instead of full-scale), and I have
to squeeze them alongside Philcons other fixed attractions.
This years main guests are DAVID WEBER, author of the Honor Harrington mil-SF
series; and DAVID MATTINGLY, cover artist for the books. Accordingly, a
selection of program items will be built around that theme; and Im arranging
some space fleet combat games.
Philcon is the annual Philadelphia (Pennsylania) Area Science Fiction
Conference, since 1937. It features programming devoted to SF/F/Horror in
books, TV, film, and games, including... heck, Ill just do a keyword list:
(anime, art show, authors, books, children, costumes, dealers, fantasy, filk,
filmmakers, gaming, horror, LARP, masquerade, panels, parties, pros, science
fact, space, TV, workshops). The 2005 edition is returning to the Marriott
Philadelphia Downtown in center-city Philadelphia, convenient to public transit
and parking garages.
I can be contacted by any of the usual LUGNET channels, or at kids2005 at
philcon dot were a non-profit. Thank you.
