After reading Dean's post, I just created some space on xdrive for the
stuff that we're collaboratively working on. I'd just finished my own
version of the layout with baseplates (including blue!) instead of the
9v track. I'm sure Dean's is better, but here's a suggested system
before we continue any further.
There's 35 mb on xdrive (http://www.xdrive.com) available immediately.
Don't worry, I'll get all the spam sent to my "junk mail" address, so
you don't have to worry about it.
Sign in as "VLCStuff" (case insensitive)
The password is "password".
You'll see the files there.
There is a folder for the current logo files, and one for train layout
stuff. Feel free to create or modify anything else as you see fit.
This is not my space, it's OUR space.
For the layout file, I've made an executive decision, and created a
format for the name of the file, as follows:
"V" - for VLC, of course, and also puts it or near the bottom of a
alpha listing
"-" - just a spacer for legibility
"K" - the first initial of the person that last modified the layout.
"0"
"0"
"0"
"1" - a 4 digit number with leading zeros, indicating the version
number of this file. Increment it with every save.
"R" - your first initial
(of course, the extension remains .tdl all the time)
Example:
V-K0001R.tdl - this is the initial file that Kevin created
and Robin modified and uploaded to Xdrive
V-R0002D.tdl - Dean download's it, and adds baseplates
then uploads it to Xdrive
V-D0003K.tdl - Kevin download's it, adds blue baseplates
then uploads it to Xdrive
etc.
This way you always know who the last two people were that did any
work on the layout, and if we do end up duplicating some work, both
versions will exist with different names (last initial at least) until
we decide which to continue with.
I also suggest that we post to the forum when we've *started* doing
any mods to the layout, so that we minimize duplicated work.
Any of this make sense? I'm doing it VERY quickly, and maybe missing
some obvious stuff, but hopefully we can make this work fairly well.
Robin

| (...) Great idea Robin! Thanks for setting it up. (...) I DL'ed your file but it seems to be the same as the one I posted - no baseplates, still with teh track around the outside. | (...) Funky site... I've uploaded the file I did. But if we are going to go studs it should be redone with proper baseplates. (I cheated on mine) The first thing to do is hammer out the layout. Then we can have a better time with track. Then road (...) (24 years ago, 17-Oct-00, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)
