RIP.
Well someone mentioned to me recently that they had read about people
having problems with bent beams after having their Star Destroyers built
for a long time.
So today I decided to inspect my Star Destroyer. I took one of the
lower panels off to look inside. What I saw was scary. The set of
beams at the back where bent almost a full brick over their 16 stud
length. This is bad. I heard that if you move the front leg into the
docking bay it relieves the stress. I tried this, and it definitely
helps, but not nearly enough.
So to protect my investment in parts it must come down.
I've taken all the panel and the super structure off at this point.
I'll be taking it to pieces to night and bring it home from work.
It's a really fun model to have, and I'll really miss having it at work,
but I don't want to destroy parts just to keep it. At this point it
looks like I'll have to brace up a few beams to see if I can straighten
them out again.
:-(
Thanks to whoever pointed this problem out to me. If I ever rebuild the
model, I'll be sure to modify the internal structure to support the
center line beams more.
