From Warner Bros. Pictures
Assembling in 2014!
The LEGO® Movie, the first-ever, full-length theatrical LEGO® adventure,
directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, opens in theaters February 7, 2014.
It stars the vocal talents of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will
Arnett, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.
The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary,
rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified
as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted
into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a
journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

Like I commented on Facebook, I wonder if this one will turn tan over time like
their white bricks do?

The right look for a LEGO® House
The LEGO Group today revealed the design of the experience center The LEGO
House. The center, which will be built in Denmark, illustrates the systematic
creativity of LEGO bricks and is expected to attract 250,000 visitors annually.
When the LEGO House opens in 2016 visitors to the house in Billund, Denmark will
enter a building that resembles gigantic LEGO bricks combined and stacked in a
creative way to create an imaginative experience both outside and inside. In the
experience center guests can expect hours full of active fun while at the same
time engaging in an educational and inspirational experience everything that
LEGO play offers.
Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, LEGO owner, explains:
The LEGO House will show the past, present and future of the LEGO idea and I am
certain it will be a fantastic place, where LEGO fans of all ages and their
families and friends will get a wide range of unique LEGO experiences. It is our
belief that LEGO play fosters innovative thinking, and the LEGO House gives us
an opportunity to make it very tangible what LEGO play offers and how it
stimulates childrens creativity and learning.
The project has been under way for more than a year and today the design of the
house was revealed.
Architect firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) has designed a building that
encapsulates what LEGO play and LEGO values are all about, says Hans Peter
Folmann, Marketing responsible for the LEGO House and adds:
The creative use of the LEGO brick shape is a true visualization of the
systematic creativity that is at the core of LEGO play, so we believe that this
is the right look for the LEGO House. And it simply looks amazing.
You can see an early concept video of the LEGO House here. The interior of the
building has not been designed yet and will look very different from what can be
seen in the video.
(See the video via AboutUs link listed below)
The LEGO House will be approximately 30 meters tall, and there will be public
access to several roof-top gardens from the outside. The building will offer
visitors a total of 7,600 square meters of exhibition areas, a café, a unique
LEGO store and a large public square.
It is our wish that the LEGO House is used by both visitors and the citizens of
Billund; the birthplace and home town of the LEGO Group. For this reason a large
part of the building - 1,900 square meters - will be a covered square with free
access for the public, and we hope it will be a natural gathering point for
people living in Billund as well as visitors. We do not know what specific
activities will be in the house, says Hans Peter Folmann and adds:
We are very ambitious with the LEGO House - It is our hope and mission that a
visit to the LEGO House will be an experience you will never forget, no matter
if you are a long time fan or just want to know more about what LEGO play stands
for.
Construction of the building is expected to begin in early 2014 and the LEGO
House will be inaugurated in 2016.
The LEGO House
Will cover an area of 80 by 100 meters and it will be approximately 30 meters
tall. Will feature a total of 7,600 square meters including exhibition
areas, a café, a LEGO store and a public square. Will be built at the center
of the town of Billund, and many entrances will open up the building to the
surrounding area. will be built in collaboration between KIRKBI A/S, the LEGO
Foundation and the LEGO Group, but the LEGO Group will handle the daily
operation of the LEGO House once finished.

NASA Partners With the LEGO Group for Design and Build Contest
WASHINGTON -- NASA and the LEGO Group are partnering to inspire the next
generation of aerospace engineers by offering a new design competition. The
competition will spur students of all ages to use the toy bricks in building
models of future airplanes and spacecraft.
The NASAs Missions: Imagine and Build competition opens Wednesday with an
entry deadline of July 31. Winners in each category will be selected by a panel
of NASA and LEGO officials and announced Sept. 1.
The first category in the contest is Inventing our Future of Flight. In this
challenge, participants will design and build their idea for an aircraft of the
future based on real concepts and new technology NASAs aeronautics innovators
are working on to increase fuel efficiency and reduce harmful emissions and
noise.
In addition to building a model from LEGO bricks or using the LEGO Digital
Designer computer program, participants in this category also must prepare and
write a technical paper. The paper will explain how the contest design takes
advantage of NASAs ideas and potentially improves on them.
This category divides entrants into two groups: young student builders ages 13
to 18 and an open group for anyone age 13 and older. The two winners will
receive a custom-made LEGO trophy and a collection of NASA memorabilia.
The second contest category is Imagine our Future Beyond Earth. In this
challenge, participants will use their imaginations to design and build a
futuristic vehicle from LEGO bricks that might travel through the air or in
space. It could be an airplane, rotorcraft, rocket, spacecraft, satellite, rover
or something else. The design can be based in reality or purely a flight of
fancy. This competition is open to entrants 16 or older. The grand prize is a
LEGO set signed by the sets designer and a collection of NASA memorabilia.
There also is a runner up prize. To read the complete rules and guidelines for
submitting the LEGO model and technical paper, visit:

From LEGO Community Engagement and Events (CEE)
Dear LEGO Fan community,
In April 2013, we ran an installation of our quarterly LEGO Fan Survey, and we
would like to share the results with you.
Over 5,000 LEGO fans over the age of 13 participated from Afghanistan to
Venezuela and nearly everywhere in between. This time, we provided the survey in
multiple languages instead of just in English, and the overall base of responses
grew as did participation from Asia (18% in this survey compared with 5% in the
first quarter of 2012) and Central Europe (15% in this survey compared with 9%
in the first quarter of 2012). Teens (13-18) represented 13% of survey takers,
and the largest two groups of adult fans participating included those from 25-34
and 35-44. This time, women represented less than 8% of survey takers - women
skew older than men and are more likely to be from North America, to talk to a
LEGO employee, or to post photos or videos of their MOCs online than men.
From the survey, weve learned that there are strong regional differences.
First, there are differences in how you perceive the value you get for the LEGO
products youve purchased compared with the price you paid Eastern Europeans
and North Americans received the highest value; Australians, New Zealanders, and
Western Europeans, the lowest. Also, Americans are spending the most on LEGO
products, both for themselves and others.
In general, fans outside of Northern, Central, and Southern Europe dont feel
theyve had good opportunities to participate in events with other LEGO fans,
fans in Eastern and Western Europe especially feel this way. Fans in Central
Europe, it seems, have found their LEGO hobby more inspiring than usual over the
past three months than fans in all other regions.
Despite the differences, there are some similarities as well: fans across the
globe feel that the LEGO fan community is strong, and they are recognized for
their knowledge of LEGO products by fans and non-fans alike. Participation in
the fan community, by commenting about LEGO stuff online or having
conversations about LEGO in person, is universally high, though strongest in
Northern Europe. Posting photos or videos of MOCs is done by just over a third
of fans but by more than half in Southern Europe. Similarly, attending a LUG
gathering is an activity only a quarter of fans have done in the past three
months, but 42% in Southern Europe have.
Finally, we learned that familiarity with the LEGO Community Engagement and
Events team could be higher. Fans that are aware of our team seem to have a more
positive perception of the value of LEGO products and participate more in events
than fans who are unfamiliar. We anticipate that the many activities we have
with newer LUGs will help drive up knowledge of our team.
Thank you to those of you who participated in the survey for allowing us the
opportunity to improve. We look forward to your responses in the next survey and
to your continued engagement and participation in the community.
With kind regards,
Yun Mi Antorini, Community Strategist on behalf of the CEE team
