I just wrote some information about several 1980s promotional sets... such as
the Dutch #1966 Repair Shop set (a Unox Soup promotional set there by Unilever
Corp.).
Or so I thought it was a Dutch exclusive... until I was shown some German
catalog images showing it was sold there as well by 2 German Toy Store
associations... SPIELZEUGRING and VEDES (over 1000 toy store members). And now
I find anecdotal evidence that this set was also sold in Sweden, although the
origins of the Swedish promotion is still a mystery.

And then there's the Weetabix Promotional Sets (or at least we thought they were
Weetabix exclusives... although that is not always the case). Here are some
Weetabix UK sets, and some additional information that I get (and glean) from
others about additional promotional sets).

And then there is the 1592 Town Square Promotional Set that started out as a
promotional set in 1980 Britain... but in 1983 the set was also sold by the 2
German Toy Retail organizations... by a Canadian retailer, and also unknown
sources in Japan and Australia.

And then there is another more recent set... the 6661 Mobile TV Studio set, that
has already been mentioned here... where TLG Denmark, and the German Marketing
staff are totally unaware of the WDR (German TV Station) variation that somehow
made it thru production and into the hands of the WDR German TV Station as a
Promotion... without the TLG Archives/Collections, or the German Marketing Staff
ever being aware about it (high level intervention of KKK?)...

6 months ago I thought we pretty much had the LEGO history 95% covered. But now
I honestly believe that we are still only scratching the surface over the much
of the story about LEGO as a product (maybe 80% known)... and there is yet so
much to discover and to tell about set variations and unknow production runs...
For those of you who have my 5 year old 1000 page) LEGO CD... it's waaaay out of
date. For those with my new (2800 page) DVD/download... it too is already out
of date, although expansion (free to current owners) is underway with lots of
additional information that will be available as a download (no cost to those
who already paid for it), and be available year after year as more info comes to
light.
I'm still expecting to find and display classic LEGO windows/doors in pink, sky
blue, and light green... (all from Norway) as well as the red, white, blue (4
shades), dark blue, yellow, green and orange ones already discovered... :O
The age of discovery of LEGO sets and parts is not anywhere near over.... ;)
Cheers,
Gary Istok
P.S. The DVD/download (compatible as both PC and MAC)... can also be downloaded
for i-Pad and i-Phone use... in case you are bored visiting relatives on summer
Holiday... ;)
