(delurking ...)
This situation certainly qualifies for a delurk.
First of all, I continue to marvel and be grateful for the relationship that has
developed between us AFOLs and TLC over the years, and am once again thankful
for this heads-up. However ...
Ive been a Lego freak for over 30 years (less a very short dark age when
girls and motorcycles held a much higher priority), and this is the first time I
can recall actually feeling a little queasy about something that TLC has done,
and questioning my future participation and involvement in this hobby.
This may not seem like a big deal to many of you, but as I read through the
posts, most of you hard-core AFOLs feel the same way I do. I know that almost
every other person in our local LUG feels the same way I do about this fiasco.
Were all literally sick over it.
Those that know me know that I am a tireless champion for the brick, mostly
locally, in our city, and in the Pacific Northwest. But I do not like the way
this whole thing smells.
I know that TLC is guided almost solely by its retail market, and for good
reason, but as Marc Nelson posted, the reasons for this change simply dont wash
with me. Either the company is lying to us, and putting a spin on the real
reason, or theyre making what seems to be one of the most idiotic marketing
decisions they could make (for all the reasons posted here)! I believe the
former is closer to the truth.
Will I get out? Unlikely. Does the thought of having to secure as much of the
old colours as possible, and learning to live with the change disappoint me?
Absolutely. As I said, the whole thing worries me somehow. After all, whats
the next change going to be?
