Does water seem to have any negative effects on LEGO bricks?  I meant to ask

an issue with the snowglobes, but do the pieces become brittle after a
while?

I might be asking stupid questions, but I would have thought that water
would have some adverse affects.

I seriously doubt water would have much deteriorating effect, though you
could get a buildup of deposited minerals, and if any algae or other
slime started growing in the water, it would coat the bricks. I have
left bricks in buckets of soapy water for weeks without any detrimental
effects.
