Dear LEGO and Vestas,
LEGO #4999 (Wind Turbine) is a promo set only to be sold or given away to Vestas
employees as a gift. (I am not sure). I would suggest and hope LEGO would
release this set world wide through LEGO Shop&home and through LEGO Brand
retail stores. However, I would limited the purchase of 4 per customer.
Honestly, this is a great looking set and with the engery crisis around the
world. This would be a great business and marketing idea for both LEGO and
Vestas to release this set to the public.
I have to say this set #4999 reminds me of the Maersk Sealand Container Ship
set #10152 and many other promo sets.
Please LEGO and Vestas sign the papers/deal to sell the set to the public. I
believe AFOLs fans would be happy. Not to forget the exposure for both LEGO and
Vestas wind power.
Thank you.

I googled the set and came up with the following two links:
http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=4999-1 and

This is a very nice set, I will buy if given the opportunity.

I second everything that has been said about this set: Its too good to be
limited to an exclusive group of commercial customers. Make this thing public,
and if Vestas objects (why on Earth should they?), paste a fantasy brand on the
turbine. Thats certainly the least effort there might be to scoring an instant
hit in the market.

I can only repeat that it would be unwise from LEGO and Vestas to actually keep
this a limited edition set. With energy prices soaring, renewable energy of all
kinds is certainly a theme that will appeal to a large community (kids and
adults alike), so LEGO could actually make that an entirely new line, what with
power functions that include LEGO solar panels and such.
It only takes a product manager to finally understand that market potential and
do something.
Ive got money in the bank to spend, all it takes are new LEGO sets I think
worthwhile of spending the money for.
Looking forward to see something happen,

I would also jump at the opportunity to own this set. Even limiting the
purchases to 2 per customer would probably be OK. This set reminds me of the
early houses from the 80s Town theme, such as 376/570 Town House, 6349 Holiday
Villa, or even the 1854 Velux promotional set, with a modern spin (no pun
intended) on things with the new parts and wind turbine.
Its unfortunate that in many cases, promotional sets have such limited
availability despite the amazing set design.

I think we need to start saying then, WHY we all like it. While I get the
feeling the Vestas set wont ever become available, Id be happy if its vibe
gets passed on to future sets.
Certainly, I like it for the following reasons:
1) Classic design and feel - as others have said, the house at the bottom is
reminiscent of the early 90s era buildings, with a solid design and pleasing
aesthetic. 2) The windmill itself is a solid design. Attention to form, detail,
and rigidity. 3) The inclusion of landscaping. While here it seems to provide a
balance for the windmill so it doesnt tip over, it also makes the whole set
feel more complete. 4) The inclusion of a very nicely designed little vehicle.
5) Even the box art evokes a sense of nostalgia! Reminds me of the old early
90s backdrops. 6) Little details like the dog, table and chairs, flowers on the
hill.
Oh, and add two more to the Id buy it! list - I certainly would, and my Mom
loves it (shes an FFOL)!

Id like to see the 4999 Windmill in general distribution for all the reasons
others have stated - form, function, colors, theme compatability, etc. Any LEGO
windfarm has to have multiples of this set - its got built-in repeatability of
sales for LEGO to help justify commercialization.

Please, please release this set to the public, or at least to AFOLs or LUGs! The
windmill is a great design, in excellent scale to the minifigs, and its got a
motor. What a great way to introduce Power Functions and motors to kids - put it
in a TOWN set, not just Creator, Trains or Technic!

I totally understand if the Vestas company would like to keep the set exclusive
to their employees. If I worked for Vestas and was told that I could get an
exclusive LEGO set, and was then later told that the exclusive set was going
to be sold to anyone around the world who wanted one, I would think I sort of
got hoodwinked(1) on the exclusiveness of the set.
However, I do think that it would be a great idea for LEGO to produce a
generic/brandless version of the set. I wouldnt mind if it was a different
design of wind turbine, as long as it was still a big cool wind turbine. I
agree with others that considering the global situation with renewable energy
resources, this set or one like it would be a good seller.
David Gregory
(1) Ah yes, another glorious instance to use the word hoodwinked.

Even if Vestas doesnt want this set released to the public, how about releasing
a version of the set without the Vestas brand name on it? If there are any
other design details specific to a Vestas windmill (or uniform, service truck,

The idea would be that the actual Vestas set remains an exclusive product, while
the public still gets a very cool set!

Well, at last count, according to
Bricksets entry for 4999, 104
people want to own this set, so you may be right about the demand.
A tres vool trick would be if this was a fully functioning turbine so that many
of these could be wired together to provide power to Lego train layouts all over

I initially saw the photos on-line of the LEGO Vestas Energy display at the Hong
Kong Airport a few months ago. I fell in love with the display and immediately
starting trying to figure out the turbines on the wind mill. At first the
blades looked they were a molded one piece units. The additional new photos on
BrickShelf look like they are made of plates combined in the same fashion as in
the LEGO theme parks. My first thought were how can I buy the blades or build
the display. Now additional photos have surfaced on BrickShelf.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=330393
I can understand the dilemma that LEGO faces and why they are upset that the
photos of the new set were leaked. LEGO has warned us before. LEGO must honor
its exclusive agreement with Vestas Energy, but that does not mean that LEGO can
not sell a generic version of the windmill minus the exclusive parts including
the green burps (Yes, I want them just like the rest of you.) I think in light
of the current crisis and energy awareness that Vestas Energy should be willing
to participate in what would amount to a free marketing campaign. Bob, I am glad
you contacted Vestas Energy, and I think we all should do the same asking that
they agree to release the set for world wide distribution, if not with their
name, then in a generic version.
I was drooling when I saw the first photos and almost went into LEGO euphoria
when I saw the windmill with an actual set number this week. I started
searching the internet for additional information. Seems that the design and
instructions for powering the unit are available on the LEGO web site under NXT.
Apparently this design and concept was the winner of one of the NXT
competitions. Now someone please explain to me why LEGO Group, Inc. can not
release a generic version of the set based on the above interest.

So, if you like this set (and seriously, who doesnt?!), please reply in this
thread affirming your point of view, and well make sure that the feedback
gets passed back up the Ambassadorial chain.

Ive literally just signed up for a LUGNET membership just to post here
because...
I WANT THIS SET! (Or at least a generic one, not necessarily Vestas-branded)
If I could only buy one more Lego set ever, this would be the set, as it is the
neatest new concept Ive seen in a long time.

Perhaps a claim that someone might buy two, and an assurance that it would save
LEGO from financial ruin?

I claim that I might buy two, and I assure you that it would save my LEGO (Port
Block, critically affected by the rising sea levels resulting from global
warming) from financial ruin.

Still baldly going...

You could buy 4, and put Port Block up on legs.

I really cannot see how LEGO can ethically release this kit since it was created
as an exclusive for the employees of Vesta. I would be sorely disappointed in
TLG if they did such a thing. "Limited ediition" and "exclusive" mean something.
As "The most trusted corporation in the world" or something like that--breaking
their agreement would be a violation of trust--even if Vesta said it was OK.

For the people that want to build one with their own (or bricklink) LEGO:
http://www.ministickers.nl/ now offers a stickersheet that is a reproduction of
the original one.

Has anyone bought any of these reproduction stickers? What is the quality like
and is this guy good to deal with? I seem to be having difficulty trying to
reach him by email. Cheers.

I second everything that has been said about this set: Its too good to be
limited to an exclusive group of commercial customers. Make this thing
public, and if Vestas objects (why on Earth should they?), paste a fantasy
brand on the turbine. Thats certainly the least effort there might be to
scoring an instant hit in the market.

Over at the LEGO Ambassador forums, we have been actively discussing this set
and are as excited about it as all of you are. It is unclear from the
information presently available whether this set will ever be released to the
public. However, Steve Witt (of TLG) suggests that we collect all of the
feedback supporting this set so that we can deliver it to the LEGO City team
and show them that this Windmill (and sets like it) are the sort of thing we
want to see from City.
So, if you like this set (and seriously, who doesnt?!), please reply in this

Not really at #4999 VESTAS Wind Turbine, but a new 2009 set: #7747 Wind Turbine
Transport -. This appears to be non-motorized and smaller version. At least
someone at the LEGO Group, Inc. was listening.

The email server had problems for a while. Im not sure about the intentions of
mister Burke, he asked information, even placed an order but did not hear from
him again after explaining the problems that we had.
Site is working correctly now again. Sorry for others that experienced problems.
You can always send an email to me of course (ministickers@gmail.com) if you
have questions.
Greetings Johan
p.s. I do it together with my cousin and my (handicapped) brother, both are not
very affluent in English so that also might cause some confusion now and then
but most of the times we are very quick and at last everything works out fine.
