Hey there all, my first .castle post. Previously posted to my peeps in .loc.au
who thought it might be wise to mention it here...

Went and bought 2 - 8777 Vladek Encounter sets last night with the intention of
removing the decal on a Vladek armour in order to get a blank black armour.

Got to work with a cloth and some Brasso. It seems the metallic element in the
design makes it harder to remove than others I have tried to remove, really
pretty dificult. After about 15 mins of rubbing I had most of it off when the
armour literally crumbled in my hands! It came apart into about half a dozen
peices.

Suffice to say I was less than happy but thought it was probably due to
excessive pressure, etc on my part.

I then got out the second armour peice secured it to a minifig body with a head
to stop overdue pressure from rubbing, new cloth and switched to a hobby model
decal remover fluid.
Basically got the same result. 15 mins to removed almost all of the decal and
then it broke apart into peices.
So now I have no black armour breastplates design or no.

I have never had to leave brasso or any other removal fluid on Lego ABS plastic
for so long before (I am supposing that this is what caused the brittleness of
the plastic) hence I don't know if Lego plastic has always reacted in this way
or if it is slightly different plastic in the new sets.

Anyway, that was my experience, metallic decal = hard to remove = crumbly
plastic. If anyone has any hints or tips on decal removal or similar experiences
I would welcome the advice.

Cheers,

James.
