Okay the million dollar question was....

Is is possible to run MLCAD from a CD?

and the answer..... YES!!!!!  YES!!!! YES!!!!!

So how do you do it?  Here are the steps.

1) Make a CD with the following folders:
\Ldraw   (copy ALL the info that is on your HD's \Ldraw folder)
\MLCad   (copy ALL the info that is on your HD's \mlcad folder)

Ensure that your HD's \ldraw folder has the latest parts update as your will
be making a 1-time burn CD.  It's also a good idea to make sure you have the
latest version of MLCAD.

2) Insert your newly copied CD into the PC that you want to run LDraw from a CD.

3) Double click on the following file.
   CD DRIVE:\MLCAD\mlcad.exe

You can get to it by doing the following:
a) Click on the my computer icon
b) Click on the CD drive
c) Click on the MLCAD folder
d) Click on the MLCAD.exe file

MLCAD will attempt to open and a pop-up window will appear asking for the
Ldraw library path.

4) Provide it the following path:
   CD DRIVE:\Ldraw\

MLCAD will then ask you if you want to register the extension.

5) Click YES, if you are a USER, SUPER USER or ADMN on the PC.
CLick NO, if you are a GUEST on the PC (it won't let you register the
file type)

That is it!  You are now running MLCAD from the CD.  You can do the same for
ALL the Ldraw apps that used the LDraw lib parts. (LDView, etc...)

ps...

On a side note if you TRULY want to make this a 'virtual' Ldraw you can use
DEAMON Tools, make an ISO image of the CD you burned and then leave the .iso
file on the HD and use DEAMON Tools to emulate a CD drive and mount the
virtual CD (which is the ISO).

This is the way I tested the method above to ensure that it all works...

Have fun everyone...
