Hi all:
After a couple of delays, I'm extremely proud to announce the release of
the newer version of LeoCAM, the beta version.
With this new implementation, you'll able to snap parts effortlessly just
by clicking on their connectors. You'll even be able to "play" with your
newerly created model! For instance, Cylindrical Holes can slide over Axles,
and we added a collision detection mechanism that allows to detect when your
moving part is colliding with another one, behaving accordingly! Also,
connected parts are able to rotate, move and accomodate without loosing
their connections! You can't disassemble your model unless you explicitly
want to! On the other hand, you can freely rotate your parts around each
other, but the connector information allows to rotate the wheels in a car
without rotating the car itself! That's because we allowed the axles to
freely rotate around cylindrical holes, so you can accomodate your model...
or even play a little with it! What is even better, you can save your model
and restore it later with all its connectivity properties intact, so you can
continue working on it as before you saved it! (For the purists: no, we
didn't add any new line to the LDRAW file format, parts are assembled in
their position as they're loaded into the model :-) ).
This new version incorporates Axles, Axle Holes and Cylindrical Holes, as
well as the Studs and Stud Inlets that where at the previous version.
Of course this release has some limitations, which include a "misterious"
hanging problem that we're working on, but luckily it doesn't occur very
often :-). Besides that, there aren't any known bugs, so feel free to e-mail
us if you find something strange!
For the downloads (sorry, right now, only WIN... :-( ), further reading,
some examples, source code and a detailed USER MANUAL of the new features, go to
http://ima.udg.es/~gonzalez/
Towards the final release, we're only going to do some source cleaning and
debugging, so expect all the functionality to be active right now.
We really would appreciate some feedback, both positive and "flames" that
would help us for improoving the final release. Ah! remember that LeoCAM is
based on the LeoCAD source (thanks, Leonardo!), so we "inherited" all its
features. We only added the connectivity functionality, so we're only
responsible for that... :-)
Please, give it a try! :-)
cheers!
Gustavo.-

| Gustavo, I haven't had a chance to check out your program, although it sounds very promising. However, the name is kind of confusing, since CAM usually stands for Computer Aided Manufacturing. So, CAM usually refers to designing and preparing parts (...) (22 years ago, 24-May-03, to lugnet.cad)
