There is a whole lot of “schleiming” goin’ on, and I thought it might be nice to let the rest of LUGNET in on the joke!

It all started years ago with a picture. I don’t recall the exact picture it was, but it was one similar to this one:

http://brickshelf.com/gallery/wrw/Germany-Trip/german-afols.jpg

Notice what we have here-- 3 Germans wearing T-shirts with the word “Snot” on them. Now, if you are an AFOL then you probably “get it”-- they are referring to the building technique “Studs Not On Top”. Now I thought this a little odd, since these were Germans advertising an English acronym. How strange they might be received if they wore those shirts to an English speaking country!

When I learned that some of these Germans would be attending BrickFest PDX, I became very excited and wanted to make them feel welcome, so I decided to make up my own T-shirts bearing the same word for “snot”, but rather in German! This is where things go slightly awry. Not knowing the German word for “snot”, I foolishly consulted the Babelfish translator. I punched in the word “snot”, and got “snot”. No good there. Then I tried “booger”. Got “booger” back in return. Rats. Okay, how about “mucus”? Babelfish triumphantly produced “schleim”, and the rest is history. But wait. After having a good laugh about the shirts, I was informed by the Germans that the proper translation should have been the German word “Rotz”, but Babelfish doesn’t know a rotz from Derek’s mother, and so the Schleim (pronounced Schlime, as in “slime”), er, stuck. And now you know the rest of the story!

So Schleim on, my friends, and if you’d like to procure a “schleim” T-shirt for yourself, keep an eye on the market NG in the next few days as I will be making some available for purchase.

Scheim Godt,

JOHN

Hello and hahaha!

Schleim is the perfekt translation for “snot” as snot is a schleimig (adj) matter.

So Schleim on, my friends, and if you’d like to procure a “schleim” T-shirt for yourself, keep an eye on the market NG in the next few days as I will be making some available for purchase.

So, being one of the guys in the original SNOT-picture (at the rightmost from viewer’s point of view) I should get one for free, shoud I not?

Always searching for bargains... But feel free to see an emoticon anywhere in this post.

Bye
Jojo

That’s what you look like, Jojo? I always pictured you as being about 1.5 inches high wearing blue and black with a black helmet.

Oh no!

SNOT is too hard so I usually adhere to the MUCUS building technique - Mainly Upward Construction Using Studs.

;)

Do you adhere to the MUCUS? or does the MUCUS adhere to you?

Steve :-)

So, um, does that mean it’s schleim if you do and schleim if you don’t?

Peace and schleim,

Professor Whateverly

Not if you build with stud-free TECHNIC!

Well, I ran it through the RAG(1) and came up with SNAC or Studs Not A Concern and SNIT or Studs Not Involved Totally, but it came right back to Studs Not On Technic. So, it appears there’s no escaping the schleim.

Peace and acronyms,

Professor Whateverly
