Hi all,

Just playing around with a boiler concept. You could replace the headlight bricks by 1x1 technic bricks with plates to join the four segments but I kind of liked the look of the segments done this way ;)

Whoops. No you can’t make that replacement... lucky I showed it the working way ;)

Tim,

How about using 1x1 with studs on 4 sides in the corners and 1x1 headlight bricks on one side (stud of 1x1 with 4 studs to the back of headlight brick) for connecting the plate with tiles.. You would have to alter a few connections when connecting to the boiler plate because of the stud on top. I think that would work and allow for connecting with plates at a 90 degree angle to the outside tiles.

Just a thought,

-Eric

Hi Eric,

That means you can’t line them up. My first design used that brick.

Yeah, I guess your right, I think there is another flaw in my thinking as well but without brick in front of me I can’t say for sure. I like your design!

I had a tough time playing around with this circular schleim idea about a year ago. I had been trying to “fill in” a 1-stud-wide version of this so that I could get a circle that was roughly 6-wide (decoration on the side of a Millyard building, IIRC). Unfortunately, I came to the conclusion that it was impossible to fill in the circle solidly without extending into another dimension (IE making the disc be 2+ studs thick instead of 1). Wouldn’t work so well for a hollow smokestack, but if anyone can come up with a solution, I’d be quite curious to see it workable!

Nice, also good for tank cars instead of the 2x2 rounded slope piece assuming you can get enough longitudinal strength.
