Having been busy with BricksWest, I haven't had a chance to be very active
here, let alone the rest of LUGNET (or build anything new, for that matter).

I just wanted to tip my hat to some of the wonderful creations that have
been introduced here lately by Chris, Stuart, Mladen, Geordan and others. So
much excellent work from so few builders...this certainly is a prolific
group (and this leads me to believe that the Mecha session at BricksWest
will be an AWESOME event).

A recent development that I found slightly disturbing though was the thread
(cum flame war) about avatar images at BrickShelf. Several posters stated
their distaste for mecha as displayed at BrickShelf when providing examples
of things they didn't like seeing there. What is up with that? Was anyone
else aware of this dislike of the mecha models? I thought the genré was well
accepted, myself...especially given the almost total "fan-only" mentality of
the overall theme (i.e. LEGO doesn't really do mecha...the small group of
fans making MOCs is the only real action in mecha). Anyway, weird, huh?

So, that's it for now. I'll be posting some new information about the
BricksWest mecha session soon (today-tomorrow).

Matt

Hmm.. it may have something to do with the apparent stereotype that anime is just a mere baby's cartoon. It has to do with the fact that anime are often connected with mecha, as several cartoons are based on such creations (Gundam series, Zoids, (...) (22 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Nah, I wouldn't say so. Poeple just have different tastes. I could say the same thing about trains. To *ME* trains all look basically the same, and I'm sure Mecha all look the same to certain people. Afterall, Mecha are mostly humanoid (...) (22 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

I actually caught part of that lame thread. Seems to me that some of the other Lugneters are confussed either by the difference between Bionicle & Avatars or Bionicle and Mecha. Maybe they are simply confussed in general??? I don't really know nor (...) (22 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) 1. Hmm... It's probably a good thing I din't catch that. I just made a little experiment on my mother. I showed her a military space ship and a military mech and her responce was that the mech was simply too good and it was too obvious that it (...) (22 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Ok let me step into this one since I just happened across the thread via the web interface. I have no idea what "Mecha" is or are, I see these creations that y'all post to brickshelf and such, but I still don't know what really makes a mecha a (...) (22 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) You know, it is. I'm not sure why but I'll venture a guess. As with anything you have purists. Legos mean ______ to some people and when confronted with a new idea it gets rejected by the collective that belives the absolute. Sound stupid? (...) (22 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Well, Matt, my take on the whole antimecha flame war is this: You either get it or you don't. Mecha has quite a bit in common with space and spaceheads like you and I understand mecha much easier than trainheads do. Townies tend to admire the work (...)
