BrickFest is fast approaching, and it’s time to get the ball rolling on our Mecha contests!

Our first contest is the Fantasy Mecha Contest. Participants are asked to imagine what ancient, medieval, or fantasy cultures might design if they had the ability to build mecha. As such, focus should be on technologies those civilizations would be familiar with. Clockwork, steam, or magic are power source possibilities, as are weapons like swords, spears, bows, and crossbows. All entries must be new; I want to encourage more building with this contest, afterall! This will be a judged contest, and the criteria for entries will be the style and construction of the mecha, as well as how well it fits the chosen theme. So remember to fill out those MOC cards! Some possibilities for entries could be giant knight-like mecha, golems, clockwork dragons, or other fantastic robot beasts. I’ve uploaded some examples of what could be considered fantasy mecha from titles such as Dunbine, Galient, Xenogears, and others here: http://www.aulddragon.com/gallery/bf06contest

Our second contest is the Diorama Contest. In this contest, participants build a scene around one (or more) of their mecha, up to the size of a 48x48 baseplate. The scene itself must be new, but it can contain older models (or even an entry in the Fantasy Mecha Contest). There is no restriction on the type of scene that can be entered in the contest. This contest will be voted on by attendees, so entries will need to be in place by Saturday morning to give ample time for voting.

If anyone has any questions, please email me; I’ll be happy to answer them. I’ll be detailing a couple of the panels and discussions we’ll be having within the next few weeks. Also, if you’re planning on bringing a contest entry or a general display item, let me know so I can start planning out our layout. I’m really looking forward to another great year for mecha!

Is there any kind of formal entry to the contest or is simply bringing your MOC and filling out a card entering you in the contest? Mark (18 years ago, 23-May-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.events.brickfest, FTX)

(...) I've been informed entries need to be in by Friday afternoon, so please make a note of that. Jeff BrickFest 2006 Mecha Coordinator (18 years ago, 23-Jun-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.events.brickfest, FTX)
