  My meager attempt

Well, once again, it looks like I am the slowest and of course, it will look like I copied Paul Cook's idea but ... I didn't Here's the start to my legs and hips (URL) It is ironic after reading Mark's treatises (all in good humor) about how much we (...) (18 years ago, 5-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: My meager attempt

(...) I'd be the last one to accuse anyone of plagiarism when it comes to Lego. It just seemed like the obvious thing to do, and it looks as if several other people have come to that conclusion independently of me. All of my ideas are (...) (18 years ago, 5-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

(...) snip (...) We like tread feet! (...) If I might make a suggestion to you, Brian, it would be to swap the joint halves where the leg meets the start of the body. I usually put the rotational joint on the body instead of in the upper Leg. It (...) (18 years ago, 5-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: My meager attempt

(...) Jon, This is the first time that I have used those joint halves (and excited for an opportunity to use them) to make a Mecha and I never really thought about how they should work. Thanks for the suggestion, I am going to implement it. It is a (...) (18 years ago, 6-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: WIP

Here are some works in process pics that I have taken. I have appreciated the comments. If you have more please let me know. Side Note Rant: While I am not building or looking at LEGO bricks, I don't really care that LEGO changed a few colors. Then (...) (18 years ago, 8-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  More WIP

Here are some more WIP photos. I seem to be posting the most (I thought that was the idea), anyway I hope no one minds. Again, My Mecha is going to be complete symmetric. I always think multi-legged Mecha should be symmetrical that way they can move (...) (18 years ago, 9-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.org.us.cedarlug, FTX)

  More WIP

More WIP from Me. I am on the final stretch of building. In true "Iron Chef" fashion I have now decided that I am not going to make a Bricklink order to finish my Mecha but I am going to use only pieces that I have. So at the end I realize that I (...) (...) When I saw your missile launcher on brickshelf, I said "ooo, I wish I'd thought of that", since one of the Exoforce sets I got had one. Great idea. K (18 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!! (My Last WIP)

I didn't take Ralphie Parker's advise and have almost shot my eye out about 5 times working on the missile launcher. I would place the missile into the launcher to make sure it fit, etc. Only to forgot about it and then trigger the mechanism!!! (...)   Re: You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!! (My Last WIP)

(...) Very cool WIP photos. I love that your mecha is so deadly even the designer is in danger. Glad to see people using the ideas everyone's pouring out, especially that cool turntable. Look forward to seeing your finished Iron Mecha stylin's Aaron (18 years ago, 16-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  The Weight is Over!!!

Well, I have finally finished my body and rigged up the skeleton form of my legs. I was concerned that my body had grown too heavy for the joints and ... (2 URLs) Collapse. Great!!! Back to the drawing board on my joints. Any suggestions on how to (...) (18 years ago, 22-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: The Weight is Over!!!

(...) Please forgive a non-Mecha builder for barging in, but Brickshelf user sugegasa seems to have come up with a technique involving rolled up bits of tissue. (URL) I've not yet tried it myself, but I'm always on the lookout for (...) (18 years ago, 22-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: The Weight is Over!!!

(...) Hello Brian, as far as I can see on your pics the rotational part of the joints doesn't stand the weight. Try to rebuild the hip like in your first attempt. (URL) Without the rotational part under weight it might hold. You also can improve the (...) (18 years ago, 22-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: The Weight is Over!!!

You might try making a joint that only moves laterally at the hip (like with 2x2 turntables), and has a fixed minimum downward angle (like with click hinges that are wedged on the upper side to a fixed angle - they can bend down, but not up past a (...)   Re: The Weight is Over!!!

(...) Marco, you were correct. It was the rotational part of the joints that caused the collapse. Once I switched the joints around, they held the weight. I also added a shock to the downward joint to limit how far the joint can expand. There still (...) (18 years ago, 23-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
