I REALLY LIKE THIS QUAD!

Come on! The feet, the canopy, the stocky leg joints, the color, the shooty things, the rear mounted optional missle racks!

DANG.

I checked out every picture. I noticed it late on Brickshelf before you posted. ....and I love it!

Yay!

MORE!

Take this design and beef it up, make it twice, nay three times the size, make it carry Bots and you’ll have a Terrain Crawler Bot Dropper!

Ok, so I made that new term up, but so what, I know you can do it!

BTW, some questions.

How do you like the click joints?

I like ‘em! They’ve got a lot of strength for the size, and the technic holes in the side make snot-ting easier. I just wish they had three axes of rotation, I wouldn’t have thought that would be hard to accomplish.

How much more weight do you think you can add or engineer them in to, before you enter a new joint class?

They could maybe handle twice the weight, but it’s really nice for once to have a mech with joints that are stronger than they need to be--it doesn’t fall over!

   Will you enter the MPC?

Yeah, I have an idea for a pose but I have to build something else first.

What are your thoughts on larger Mechs like this?

You mean like Chili, or one of Mladen’s MWPs? Well, they’re obviously awesome. The approach I like to take to mech building is to shrink the limbs down tight to the joint, using as little “limb” as possible. The mech becomes as compact as I can get it, given the joints I’m using, so that dictates the size of the mech. I like to think it’s the Japanese design philosophy of miniaturization--think Honda or Sony. So if I built a larger spider mech, it would probably have to use worm gears.

Will this Mech be featured on the front of a Ceral box?

I wish!

Is it clicky? (the sounds of the joints when they move)

Yes, noise-suppressing stealth technology muffles machinery sounds down to the level of nearly inaudible clicks!

How cool would it be if you had an underbody mount so you could attach it to walls like hanging a painting. ???

I hadn’t thought of that until you mentioned it, but that would be sweeeeet.

Can I go for a ride in it?

You must be less than six studs tall to drive Spider Tank.

   Does it have XFM radio?

Yep, this particular mech’s pilot is partial to the Van Halen channel.

Did you already have a majority of the parts on hand or did you have to buy more stuff?

Had it all on hand. So far I haven’t tried out Bricklink or bought specific sets to finish a MOC.

btw, how long did it take to build?

Arrrgh! Months! I build so slow. I’m totally jealous of your 18-hour productive building sessions--I don’t have 18 hours in a row, and even if I did, there’s no way I’d be productive the whole time.

Thanks, Certain engineers want to know.

Thanks for the comments and questions, Eric. I’ve felt the need to do a quadraped for a long time now just to understand the different armature characteristics.
