It seems like it would be appropriate to start a separate thread
specifically for holding actual entries.

With that, here are my first 3 entries:

Category 3: Medium Ships (approx. 100-200 pieces):
http://www.hafhead.com/lego/myspace/clscout/index.html

Category 4: Large Ships (approx. 300-1000 pieces):
http://www.hafhead.com/lego/myspace/clvoy2/index.html

Category 5: Utility Vechicles (any size, 1000 pieces or fewer)
http://www.hafhead.com/lego/myspace/clcomand/index.html

Feel free to follow up this article with entries.  Please put discussion
either on a new thread on the main thread:

All of my entries will go here:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=1784

My first entry is:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=1785

It is a polybag sized ship, with 23 pieces not including pilot, or 27 pieces
with the pilot included (A minifig counts as 4 pieces, right?  Legs, Torso,
backpack, helmet)  If it's too big and should be recategorized as a category
2 small, let me know.

Yeah, a classic space astronaut would be counted as 4 by LEGO -- one for each
of:

- legs
- torso + head
- helmet
- airtank

Legs, Torso,
backpack, helmet)  If it's too big and should be recategorized as a

Personally, I'd love to see a polybag set with that much stuff in it.  It
seems a bit much for what LEGO has put in a $2ish polybag sized set, but feel
free to choose which category you want to put it in -- it seems borderline to
me and could go either way.

Great alternative models!!!

Awesome alternate models!  This contest is going to be amazing.  I'm almost
finished with my first entry, but I don't know if I'll have the heart to
take it apart to attempt some alternate models.  I'll definitely need to

Thanks.  I think they were almost more fun than creating the original model
:)  I Ldrawed the original first so that I could rebuild it if I wanted to.
Of course, a vehicle as simple as this guy I could probably rebuild without
anything other than the pictures to go by.

I keep thinking, though that this vehicle probably ought to be reclassified
as category two.  I think with the wings and the two dishes, it's just a
little bit too big to be a polybag.

Here's my next entry for the design contest.  It's a category 8 mobile
rocket launcher, based loosely on the 6950 mobile rocket launcher.  My
concept for it was a smaller, faster, lighter version of the 6950 for people
who want to lob a missile 1000 miles instead of 5000 miles.  Without further
ado,

Very nice, again.  It's gonna be impossible to choose winners in this

Sorry Bram, I'm working solo on these projects :)  The funny thing is a
couple of the alternate models I've made I'm considering modifying slightly
and resubmitting as their own sets.  I'm hoping by posting elaborate
alternate models to these early submissions, I'll get other people to really
put some work into them.  I think they're more challenging than the original
models (which may well be why Todd put that stipulation into the rules).

I'm thinking, too, that it would be a lot of fun to have a BLOC meeting and
do some classic space building some time soon.  Gino and I have discussed it
some, but that's not for this newsgroup.  I'll make an announcement over on
.ohio one of these days about it.

I didn't really expect you to say yes. :)  The quest ion to you was a joke,
but then I figured that it might be a good idea in some cases, hence the
footnote to Todd.

I'm hoping by posting elaborate alternate models to these

Or make other people jealous that they're nowhere near as good at alternates
as you are...But watch out if Joseph Gonzales enters anything!  He'd
probably make an alternate of an actual Classic Space set, and call the
original ste an alternate model :)

I think they're more challenging than the original models

I think the more pieces, the harder alternates are too...though I haven't
really tried that many.

I'm thinking, too, that it would be a lot of fun to have a BLOC

Sounds great.  I'm definitely available on weekends, that is, if I get up

Fine with me -- as long as you designate one of the N people in your
collaboration team to be the one who casts the official votes for your team
when voting time comes for the winning entries.  Also, naturally, none of
the people on a team can use their vote on that team toward any of their own
models, and vice-versa.

Here's a preliminary render of my first entry:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=18657
For all you LCAD sceptics...I have built this in real life, I just don't have
my Coolpix 990 yet.
I'll have to make some more renders showing off the features, but here are some
teasers: The trans-red round shields that you see in the render fold down to
become the landing gear.  The back opens up a la 928.  There is room for either
a small rover with a radar antenna and some other widgets, or a small (5x8)
cubicle box thingie.

That is way cool, Bram.

Sort of looks like you smooshed the Starfleet Voyager and the FX Star
Patroller into one model.

I especially like the use of the metal detectors as sensor thingies.

Here is my entry for category 11, "The ugliest, wackiest thing in space":

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=18661

It's called "Robot Command Transport", and can carry to people (safely?)
across the surface of a moon.

And yes, those minifigs are Hugo and Oscar ^-^

http://m1.876.telia.com/~u87609425/hugo/index.html

I have some alternates, and I'll put them up soon too.

Is that going to be a soul-crushingly huge ship that pushes the boundaries
of Todd's original piece count rules?  I sure hope so.  Make sure to tear it
apart and build cool alternates while you're at it :)

OK.  Here's my first entry.  This is the ship that TLG would never have made
back then, but that everyone of us would have wanted... a fighter !
The Starfighter's design was heavily influenced by the venerable
Starfleet Voyager-Class exploration vessels, but it was intended to escort
and, when neccesary, single-handedly defend these and other older, lightly
armed vessels from any threats they might encounter on the galactic rim.
The cargo hold was deleted all-together to allow the Starfighter to carry 4
ship-to-ship missles, 10 matter-antimatter bombs, and 4 pulse cannons.  A
third engine was added to increase the ship's manuverability and
acceleration well beyond the performance envelope of any previous design.
The Starfighters quickly gained a reputation for being tough, reliable, and
easy to maintain.  The use of existing weapon, engine, and computer
technologies ensured that the extensive inventories of Voyager-Class spare
parts maintained by starfleet drydock facilites could be used without
modifications on Starfighters.  Modern day military strategists surmise that
the navy's current compliment of admittedly outdated Starfighters are still
more than a match for any vessel that the recently encountered UFO or
Insectoid fleets could use in raiding Starfleet Shipping lanes.  Simulations
indicate that the Starfighters could also be used to devastating effect in
offensive mission roles should the need ever arise...
I'm not sure whether it should be a category 3 Medium Ship or a
category 4 Large Ship.  It's not very big and it's only got about 250 pieces
in it, but it is definitely bigger than Todd's examples of what a medium
ship would be.

So good, it hurts!  I think it's got an inherent 'Lego-made' quality to it,
for the most part.  For example, the engines.  It looks like there's TONS of
them, but it's really only two big ones and four little ones.  Not an
unreasonable amount of similar specialty parts at all.

Love the overall look.  It's what the 1593 SHOULD have looked like.  ;-)

favorite.  It is Classic Space, but it is unique.  I think it adds to the theme,
too.  They didn't really have a good way to haul stuff out there, did they?

Anyway, someone vote for this one for me. :)

Thanks!

I have since very slightly modified this ship.  In the next couple of weeks,
I plan to add an alternate model and redo the cargo modules to integrate
with the ship better as a set.

Greetings all.
After working arduously on producing not one, but a few successful models
for the Contest, I've finally re-tooled my first model for entry, the
FX-Star Patroller II. It fits perfectly into category 4, containing between
300 and 300 pieces (including the expanded roller car in back). The FX II
has received a new paint job, exclusively for this contest. (The old used
more orange and custom-made elements.) The sole pilot of this craft is the
Black Classic Astronaut, back from the mid-1980s. It should be obvious that
among the small number of "new" parts included are 7 x 12 wings, minifig
skis (it's gotta land somehow...), and 2 large antennae for extra firepower.
ALL parts -- old and new are in the colors of the original Space scheme. If
you find fault with the pilot's clear visor, it can be removed... although
there is no Classic space helmet to date. Note that the pilot sits very
comfortably in a 15 (from sitting up) degree angle, untouched by either the
cockpit glass or the plate and bracket behind him.

Last, but not least, here is the address to this marvel. Future entries and
alternate models will arrive shortly.
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Cybertronian/SpaceContest/contst1-front.jpg

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Cybertronian/SpaceContest/contst1-rear.jpg

Enjoy and let me know what you think.
James J.
Don't just play "well", play better!

P.S.: If you look hard at the hose ends on the large wings, you will see
that I'm using a trans.-yellow hose with black ends, like the instruction
booklet cover. Also notice that I edited POV-Ray color values to make
Color366 -- Gold -- metallic-surfaced like its Color383 -- Silver
counterpart.

P.P.S.: I am still offering custom-remodeled pieces to others that do
qualify for this contest, such as Minifig Shortcuts for 6 of the oldest
Space  sub-groups.

Here's my latest Classic Space Design Contest Entry:  Its profile may look
very familiar to some of you.  My favorite classic space set heavily
influenced the design of this vehicle, but it does stand on its own as a
unique vehicle, I think.

Thanks.  I really like how the second alternate model, the truck with the
trailer hauling the rover and spacecraft.  In fact, I like the concept so
much I'm thinking of reworking it into a whole new model.  It looks squat
and powerful, perfect for a heavy transport.

So tonight I pulled out my big box of LEGO from my wee days.
Most of my collection was classic space, and I probably
have about 50% of the sets from '78 to '83 say.  So I
figured I should have no problem coming up with some
entries that are made entirely from original classic
space LEGO.

I sat down to wash the pieces as they've been in a basement
for the past 10-15 years or so, and are pretty filthy.  As
I was sorting to wash them by colour, I noticed that I
didn't seem to have very many grey pieces.  Odd since
most of it should be early classic space.  So I counted
the wings.  I have 2.  WHAT THE?!?!?

It seems I am missing almost all of my grey pieces!  I
must have missed them in my parents' basement somehow
when I picked up the LEGO last Xmas.  And the real
problem is they're an 18 hour drive away.  Nuts!!

The only thing I have complete here with me is a Galaxy
Explorer.  Hehe, maybe I'll just build a ton of models
with that set (it's big enough!) and submit the original
as an alternate.  It's either that or CAD...

I built this entry last week, but didn't get the chance to do a photo shoot
until today.  It is now up on my site.  I'm entering this in category 7:
Small Mobile Ship Launchers, approx. 50-200 pieces.

You can check out the 55-piece Space Scout Transport here:
http://www.hafhead.com/lego/myspace/cllaunch/index.html

I have a couple more creations that I hope to post in the next 2 days.  I
just have to do up the pages for them.  I'd probably finish them today, but
I have to wait a day in between each submission.

I'm not sure which category to put this one in, so I'm asking for help.
Opinions, please!  Which of these categories does it belong in?

    6. Walker Vehicles (any size, 1000 pieces or fewer)

                    - or -

    11. The Ugliest, Wackiest Thing in Space

It fits the bill fairly well for either category.  I'm picturing it as a
small polybag set.

I actually did "laugh out loud" when I saw this. Its really kinda cute.

To answer your question:
I suppose it could go in any one of those categories but personally it would
be neat as a ground based poly bag set. Tell ya what, if you enter it in
this category than I'll make a tiny ground vehicle as well. Maybe even
another little walker.

Yes- I really think we need another polybag category.  Todd?

While we're on the subject... I wonder when Todd is going to set up the

Nice job!  What is the walker doing in one of the pics...chasing the pilot?
Or is it trying to kick the pilot in the seat of his pants?

Hey, what set does the semi-technic, um, "nose cone" come in white with a

The walker is chasing him, about to drop its front legs upon his head with
extreme prejudice.  This is just after the space fig insulted its fine
robotic heritage.

I actually had no idea until I looked it up the other day- I just found it
in my big pile and thought I'd use it.  It comes from this set:
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6827
If I'd looked up where the part came from before I did the site, I'd
probably have named it the Strata Stalker instead.

That thing is so ugly that I can't imagine I ever bought it.  I most likely
picked it up as part of a larger acquisition, and never happened to notice
the piece.

The piece I really want is the classic print nose from this set:

That thing is so ugly that I can't imagine I ever bought it.  I most likely
picked it up as part of a larger acquisition, and never happened to notice
the piece.

:)  Isn't that always the way.... <chuckle>

The piece I really want is the classic print nose from this set:
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/1499

No doubt!  What a cool element.  I do my best right now to use all my
available classic space symbols to identify my ships.  Although I've
problably got a few buried somewhere in my capital ship.

If anyone has 1X2 blue/white bricks with the classic space symbols in decent
condition and are willing to sell, I'd be very interested!  Anyone?

this very piece. No pictures yet tho...

G'day Tony,

That's a great model, love it!  I think the use of the steering
wheel for something other than a steering wheel is pretty
inventive.  I've seen that done before, but I can't remember if
it was in a set, an alternate, or an idea book.  (I remember
using them for cart wheels once...)

Anyhow, I have a question about this pic:
http://www.hafhead.com/lego/myspace/uglywalk/big03.html
(the one with the Stalker, well..., stalking.)

In the background some of the studs on your crater plate are
darkened.  Are they coloured with a marker or something?

Thanx,
KDJ

Not a marker- that plate just has some really nasty grime in a couple of
places.  I picked it up in an auction a while back.  I haven't tried any
serious cleaning yet, but so far it has resisted light cleaning efforts.

And thanks for the kind words.  It's interesting that my smallest, simplest
model seems to be garnering the most comments.  I should probably give up on
the big ship I'm working on...

Hehe, okay Tony.  I was curious because I have a 920 Launch Pad
that I markered some of the studs on when I was a kid.  I did
this to mark where the building legs had to go, because I no
longer had the instructions.  I was just wondering if someone
else shared my madness  :]

I'm not sure which category to put this one in, so I'm asking for help.
Opinions, please!  Which of these categories does it belong in?

   6. Walker Vehicles (any size, 1000 pieces or fewer)

                   - or -

   11. The Ugliest, Wackiest Thing in Space

It fits the bill fairly well for either category.  I'm picturing it as a
small polybag set.

Well it really could fit any of those categories.  Maybe they should
create a category for entries that cannot be decided on.  Really, that has
to be the wackiest model ever designed (catagorie 11!!!).  And I thought I
had built the strangest walker vehicle ever with:
                 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=1807

It's called the Spy Scout and I guess this is the official entry for it.
Go up on my Brickshelf page to see a file with a second entry.  Both were
supposed to be entered weeks ago, so this is just to make sure.  Please tell
me what you think of it if you read this.

one in category 11: The Ugliest, Wackiest Thing in Space.  I also built a
couple of alternate models.

Sweeeet!

I just love stuff that opens up. That is so keen. Also has a good enough
assortment of parts you can build fairly spiffy alternates.

Well done!

Hello again. :-)
I'm writing because I've just completed no less than 2 more entries for
the Classic Space Building Contest. These will be my 3rd, 4th, and 5th
entries. Why not 2nd? Simple. The second is a multi-part file in which the
main body is not yet complete. I am re-posting with the web address to all
of my entries. The entries pictured are as follows...

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Cybertronian/SpaceContest/
or http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=1833

Entry 1: FX-Star Patroller II
Category: 4 - Large Ships
Pieces: 311 (excluding the helmet visor, 310).
Figure(s): 1
LEGO Medium: Originally in LEdit,
                    re-colored for contest in MLCAD,
                    rendered in POV-Ray.

Entry 2: <Incomplete>

Entry 3: (Major Modification on #6808, Grid Trekkor)
Category: 2 - Small Ships
Pieces: 35 (excluding the helmet visor, 34).
Figure(s): 1
LEGO Medium: MLCAD, rendered in POV-Ray.

Entry 4: Astro Defensive Communications Base <Not yet posted>
Category: 10 - Space Bases
Pieces: Unknown, but a lot.
Figure(s): 4, possibly 5.

Entry 5: Modular Space Fighter
Category: 2 - Small Ships
Pieces: 88 (87 w/o clear helmet visor.)
Figure(s): 1
LEGO Medium: LEGO Medium: Originally in LEdit,
                    re-colored for contest in MLCAD,
                    rendered in POV-Ray.

Well, that's it. Let me know what you think.

P.S.: To those who are counting, Classic space mini-figures only accounted
for 5 pieces. Those pieces are: legs & hips (#1), torso & arms (#2), head
(#3), helmet (#4), and airtanks (#5). Figure set-ups after 1994 or 1995 are
the ones with the head practically glued onto the torso & arms piece.
P.P.S.: LEGO Medium is my way of noting whether it was built in a program
(LDraw/LEdit, MLCAD, etc.), in Real Life, or however.

Hello all. :-)
Just for the recap, here is where I stand.
Model nos. 1, 3, 4, & 5 are complete.
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Cybertronian/SpaceContest/
The surface vehicle w/ droid to #1 are now pictured.
#2 will not be completed.
#3 has retracted and expanded views.
#4 has solid and transformed (expanded) views. The Black & Blue astronauts are
driving the Defensive Battery, White is in the command center (from old #6930),
Yellow is flying in the aerial scout vehicle, while Red drives the ground vehicle.
#5 is the same, minus one clear visor.

Have a good night and good luck to all (esp. me)!

G'day folks,

I wasn't going to do any entries when I realized that most
of my grey LEGO was about an 18-hour drive away.  But I
do have a Galaxy Explorer here so I figured surely I
could come up with something from that.  Problem is
I like multi-axled ground vehicles and the GalEx only
has two.  Nuts.  Since I don't have a digicam and have
to LDraw my entries anyhow, maybe I could use the
"virtual" LEGO pile.  It's just so much harder not having
the phyical pieces to toy ideas with.

Anyhow, here's my humble entry:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/flightdeck/classicspace.html

I'll add the alternates as soon as I can.  I actually
had more fun doing the supporting text than the model
itself  :]

Thanx,
KDJ

sense).  I just like making stories to go with my stuff.  But
having read it after an annoying day at work, it just doesn't

Hi -

I've finally completed my entries and de-lurk to present them now. I've built
three models that combine in a number of ways to make several larger spaceships.
Following the one-entry-a-day rule, the first entry may be found here:

Astro Science Pod
category 10: space base, any size

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=2122

Photos of the large combined models, as well as the other smaller models (which
will be officially entered over the next couple of days) may be found here:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=2121

Thanks - Paul

Since Todd is extending the deadline, I've actually finished one of the two
entries I was working on but abandoned because it wasn't looking like I'd be
able to finish them.  Anyway, here's a category 5, Utility Vehicle entitled
Starfleet Mobile Listening Post.  It's got a lot of playablilty with
steering trailers, rotating dishes, opening doors, 3 minifigs, and a robot.
I really like how the robot came out.  Please it check out at
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=2218 and LMKWYT.
                                                Thanks,

PS.  Many thanks to James Jackson for sending me the Minifigs : )

Hmm wierd...  I just noticed that the clock on my machine is whacked and
that the time of my post says it's tommorrow already !  It's actually 9:20
PM EST on Satruday 12/2 and I sent this entry in about an hour ago so that'd
be approx 8:15 PM.  Sorry for the confusion.

I'd like to officially change the name of this entry to "Cosmic Dart".  I've
also recolored it a bit and made other minor structural changes.  The
original was built out of parts I found around my office, and when I went
home last night I was able to improve it somewhat.

I still only have LDraw images on my site.  I really really hope to get real
pics up tonight!

Ok, here's my entry for Category 9 - Mobile Laboratories.

http://plaza.powersurfr.com/acme/mobile_explorer/

This model would fit in with the later years of classic space
with the part selection and the gray/trans-dark green color
scheme.  It's actually a combination of ideas in the 6940, 6950,
and 6952 sets.

Unfortunately, you will not see alternate models for this
set since there's no way I could get them done in time.
There would be many possible alternates, given the
choice of parts in this relatively large set.

Anyway, please LMK what you think.  Thanks.

Yeah. I really like the realism in this model. I'd like to get an entry in,

WOW! That's an awesome model! I found it coool when I first saw it, and when I

cool.

My final entry is the Geosurvey Rover, in category 9: Mobile Laboratories.
  http://www.hafhead.com/lego/myspace/clgeorov/index.html

That makes 10 entries, putting in a showing in every category except for
Mobile Rocket Launchers and Space Bases (and 2 entries in Medium Ships).
I've certainly outdone myself in *quantity*, though the quality has suffered
on some models.  I'll probably rework at least my Rover in the future.

As Todd said, let's see if we can hit 50 entries!  We must be close...

I've been wanting to try out Lugnet's "Build Your Own Pages" feature for a

page to combine all my entries would be appropriate, so I busted out the FTX

Procrastinator that I am, I finally got around to taking pictures of my Classic
Space Contest entry and posting them this evening.  So here is my "Starfleet
Pursuit Interceptor":

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=2200

This ship is a category 3 medium spaceship.  I estimate it has between 130 and
150 pieces, and it's in the Grey/TransGreen style of one of my all-time
favorite ships, the Gamma-V Lasercraft (<set:6891>).

All the parts came from my "Pre-Dark-Ages" parts bin. :) I'm not sure that the
two black hoses I used ever came in a space set, but they did exist back
then... I think I got them off of an old "expert builder" set.

They certainly did come on some classic space sets- the 1979 Alpha-1 Rocket
Base <set:483> came with 3.

Yours look like they might be longer, though, and may well have come from a
different set.  But unless I'm totally confused, they are definitely the
same kind.

G'day folks,

Well, it's still 30 November in my time zone (EST) so I hope
I'm not too late.  Here is my second and last contest entry,
an Interceptor:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/flightdeck/interceptor.htm

It's only 85 pieces plus minifig, so it's in no-mans-land
between Categories 2 and 3.  I'd like to put it in
Category 2, Small ships.  It's dwarfed by most of the
ships in Category 3.

I couldn't find 2 of the printed classic space elements
in Ldraw that I wanted, so I just made do.  I don't have
access to a digicam right now to be able to take pics
of the prototype.

Note that my first entry has been moved to:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/flightdeck/lunarscout.htm

Both entries can be accessed from:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/flightdeck/classicspace.html
Sorry for the inconvenience with moving the page.

Thanx,
KDJ

Boy, that's a close call.  Being about the same size as 918 Space Transport,
which is also 85 pieces, it could probably go either way.  You've got 2 big
engines, though, and a wide cockpit -- I'd kinda lean toward "Medium Ships"
rather than "Small Ships."  Since you seem to feel the same way, I'll move it
in the "Medium Ships" category, assuming that you were suggesting this.

G'day Todd,

Sounds okay to me.  I've got a fair number of 1x2/3/4 plates in
there which pushed the piece count up, but I didn't feel like
making a juniorized set  :]  As long as it gets to go somewhere
I'm happy.

I assume that one of the pieces is the blue 33 degree 3x6 slope.  I'm
currently working on it, but I don't expect it to be done terribly soon.
You can use my mockup, though.  The only problem with the mockup is that the
logo is far too small (I cloned the logo on a 3x2 slope and put it on the
face of a 3x6 slope, then filled out the rest of the slope with plain
rectangles).  It's not quite right, but it is somewhat better than using 3
smaller slope pieces.

You can get the mockup at:

G'day Tony,

Yeah, that was one of them, the most conspicuous.  Also I couldn't
find a classic space helmet, and the 1x4 grey bricks with dials
on it from the cockpit of the 918.  For the latter I used the
one with the black vertical stripes on it.

Hey thanx.  But I don't think I redo the model now.  I'll
just wait for the parts update.  This is only one of the
first times I've used Ldraw, so I don't think I'll suffer
without the piece for now  :]

Thanx,
KDJ

Thanx Jonathan (and Tony), that's exactly the piece I was
looking for.  It didn't take me long to learn that the piece
categorization in Ldraw is a little confusing, since many
of the pieces are sorted by use context and not by physical
description.  For example, in the very first model I made
(a replica of 6517, because it was simple) I couldn't find
a "plate, 2x2, round, smooth bottom".  That's because it
was filed under "B" for "boats".  ??!

Anyhooo, I think I've seen this contentious thread around
before, so I'll just set FU to .cad.dev (I hope that's the
right place for it).

Thanx guys,
KDJ

Ok heres my first non entry entry. Um that doesn't make sense. Anyway you've
seen it but now its a real entry. I'll probably follow it up with the other
2 similar vehicles.
It will go in category 5. These entries are supposed to look like they're
made by the same company who made 6901, 6940 and 6952

Hi guys. Here is my second to last entry, The Asteroid Scout 2. This
Asteroid Scout uses a traditional canopy unlike the first Scout. It has big
tires for rugged terrain and it has some cargo space in the back.

I finished the site for my entries:

http://www.oklahoma.net/~jpalmer/contest/

You should now be able to see all of my entries in one place.

I'll be back tomorrow with the last Asteroid Scout.

Thanks and tell me what you think

Jon, I really liked this one.  I used to make "buggies" like
that all the time when I was a kid.  The fun part was making
ones that could still drive around if they got flipped
upsidedown  :]

Glad to hear you liked it Kyle. Of the 3 rovers I made this one in my mind
is the most rugged and speedy. I imagine it ramping up the sides of craters
and floating through the air for a bit before settling down on those big
tires. I also love the idea of your reversible buggies. I think I made some
like that when I was a kid too.

Hello Everyone,

I'd like to join the crowd with an entry in this classic space contest.
I started this design yesterday morning so I really didn't have time to work
on alternate designs.  The piece count for this set is 84 which does include
the minifigure's helmet & air tank, this is the way I think it normally works,
correct me if I'm wrong.  That being said I think it would go well in the small
ship category.  You can find the pictures here:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=2221

I apologize for the quality of the pictures; since I didn't have a lot of time
I borrowed a friends older digital camera that has a pretty low resolution.
Ideally I would have used my 35mm equipment to take the images.  Some came out
better than others but I hope the general design is well conveyed.  I think
I'll call it the Leonid Patrol Craft.  Let me know what you think.  The design
process was actually a lot of fun and it's been great looking at the other cool
designs from everyone else.  I think this contest was a great idea and I look
forward to any more that Todd would propose.

Here is my last rover:
Asteroid Scout 3
http://www.oklahoma.net/~jpalmer/contest/scout3.html
Like the other rovers it bares a resemblance to a real set.

And here is the main index

As always let me know what you think.

And here is my last entry:
The Crater Bounder
http://www.oklahoma.net/~jpalmer/contest/bounder.html

Obviously inspired by Tony Hafner's Astro Stalker.

-Jon

p.s. Todd, the link to the Outpost Explorer from the entries page is broken.
I believe it should have a .html on the end instead of a / .  Thanks.

Aw, now ain't that just cute!  And thanks for the nod.

Overall, I'm very impressed the models that have been entered.  There's a
ton of playability packed into many of these.  I've seen a lot of very
functional models and a lot of truly creative ones.

Am I the only one who would have liked to see what Todd would have made if
he had been eligible?  We have the one ship he gives as an example, but I'm
sure he'd have had at least a couple more things to spring on us.

I sure would liked to have seen some from Todd as well.
And after Larry P made that tongue-in-cheek swipe at Space,
I'd like to have seen him enter a Classic Space rail set  :]

Yes, and I noticed that somebody appears to have been trying to make extra
points with our auditor:

Okay, but I thought Todd was eventually going to organize a single post or
page for this purpose?  I dunno, maybe not...

Anyway, here is the Acme SuperSucker 9000 in my bid for "The Ugliest,
Wackiest Thing in Space." The SuperSucker 9000 weighs in at approx. 33
elements and can be seen at:

And yes, I realize that the little fellow has no airtank -- it just makes me
giddy to watch him suffer so...

Well, I _did_ post that a month ago.  In any case, it was kind of silly.  It
would have made a lot more sense to just post entries as replies to the
original announcement.  I was just blinded by my excitement over the contest
and posted without thinking it through.  I too have a big soft spot for
classic space and couldn't help myself (sorry if I trod on your toes, Todd-
after all, it's not my contest!)
