Hi all,
I've been working for quite a while on building a more-or-less scale
model of the fire station I volunteer at. It is finally almost done, and
posted to Brickshelf:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=26574
The Lego model is 72 studs deep and 104 studs wide (yowza). The scale came from
the piece I could not selectively compress: the garage roller doors. I tried to
build the rest of the structure to be approximately correct in size relative to
the garage doors on the real thing; you can see some side by side comparisons
in the gallery.
The interior is also layed out like the real station, although currently
lacking some furniture. The second floor comes off easily, as does the roof
section of the quarters, and the engine bay roof is hinged:

Next up is to build our fire and EMS units; I've got the cab of the ladder
truck done:

The pictures of the cab are a little out of date now, as I have made a few
small mods, including a different roofline and adding telescoping lights. I'll
post updates to this folder as construction continues.
For those interested in more real life info on this fire department, I am
building an updated site for us, currently under construction at
http://www.sdss.jhu.edu/~rrg/hobbies/fire/hvfd/index.html
Thanks to all those who've been posting their fire equipment on Brickshelf,
they've been inspiring!
Build on,
Roy
