Well folks, here it is, a few years after my first development of this
model...I'm proud to post some pictures of my Unibody Car!!! (they were just
posted to Brickshelf at 10:00 pm on 10/12/02 so they might not be reviewed
yet...)
The story behind this is as follows: a few years ago, I ran out of the regular
base plate for cars, yet my town needed more transportation. Since I didn't
want my Lego folks to have to ride slow and unreliable public transportation, I
needed an alternative. After an all night brainstorming session, I finally
arrived at my new car - sans frame.
Here's the exploded view of my model, it breaks down into three basic segements.

As you may be able to tell, they are exactly the same height (luck helped
there!) and the same length. They even look similar with an evolutionary theme
like real cars have!
An interesting note, since there is no frame for the car, a lot of different
variants can be made without fear! My only other variation is this neat little
slant back sports coupe.

A few notes on this design...I always use black for the front and rear
bumper/light assembly (and now I've run out of those black pieces! Curses!). It
doesn't look right in any other color (although I haven't tried gray). I also
did some crash testing today, and with the top securly latched, my fist could
not break it apart. Also, nearly all regular folks will fit under the roof
(with the exception of any Cowboys - but they should just go for the sunroof
model!).
Well, that's about it. If you get a chance, please let me know what you think,
and take a look at the rest of my folder, I've got some other neat designs
there as well.
