hey, that's really cool. I never thought of a 'thopter like that. I remember
the ones from the Sci-Fi miniseries, and the ones from the old movie. didn't
really care for either design. I think my favorite design so far came from
"Dune 2000", the Westwood game. if I had some of the really big insectoid
wings, I might be tempted to build one. still this is a very nice, unique
design. I'm no sure how you'll do Baron Harkonnen, though, and he wouldn't
fin in a 'thopter, the silly git.

keep up the work, I want to see what you come up with next

*snip*

Herbert's descriptions of 'thopters are pretty vague and somewhat • confusing -
sometimes buglike and sometimes birdlike. My version tends to be more • birdlike.
It features wings that can move, wingtips that retract (well, not really
retract, but be removed :-)), seating for one, and a Holtzman generator • for
shields and repulsor-lift that pops out for maintenance.

Pictures are at:

I've made a GIF animation that shows the wings flapping (about 300K):

And just for fun, I've made some of the characters from the book to go • with it
(any suggestions how to make a "grossly and immensely fat" minifig for • Baron
Harkonnen?)

LMKWYT!

Thanks - Paul

(...) Thanks - I'm glad you like it. I've never seen the 'thopter from the game - any chance you could post, or point me to, some pics? - Paul (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)
