An idea that I wanted to build something large-ish using Znap pieces and all the
various parts that no-one seems to want to buy. Out of it came <taa-daa>

Znap Ferris Wheel

<http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=6513>

This is mostly complete, other than the drive train. I had 2 or 3 tries using
various gearing arrangements (most recently using a worm gear and 24T combo),
but still have nothing satisfactory. I'm still working on it tho :)

The most frustrating part of working with znap is the inter-beam spacing when
converted to system stud widths. Typical openings between beams are 1, 3, 7,
etc. In the case of the Ferris Wheel, the opening between the adjacent sides is
7 studs. Anyone got any 2x7 or 3x7 plates to spare ? I tried various stacked
plate designs, but kept having problems with the plates scraping the inside
edges of the znap beams (and keeping the seats from free-rotating). Then I spied
a bag of 'Plate 1 x 4 Offset' (4590) and something went click. Using those
offset plates, I can take a conventional 4x6 or 6x6 plate and center-hang it in
the middle of a 7-stud space VOILA! Using a 6x6 plate (I happen to have green on
hand) helps to keep the seats on a nice even vertical keel. The 1x6 bar with
studs was just an afterthought as a guide to keep the figs from trying to jump
;)

The last picture is a parts blow out of the pieces needed to make one seat
assembly.

Let me know what you think. This has been a 'few minutes here', 'few minutes
there' kind of project. Whenever the mood strikes me or a new idea pops up to
solve some little issue.

good work. Seems like the only thing needed was a good idea. Zanp seems perfect to this with your use of curves here. Ray Sanders <rsanders@svic.net> wrote in message news:GInFtr.2yA@lugnet.com...
