Modify 'Top Stories' home page to honor filter

With all of these new topics appearing, I've started to add tweak my filtering
settings (http://news.lugnet.com/news/filter/). Unfortunately, I need for the
home page to honor these settings. I should not see 'top stories' for groups
that I have filtered specifically out.
Is this something that can be done?
